Bespoke Furniture | A Design Journey, Part 1
Colorado Custom Furniture | The initial inquiry was for a home library in the space that was previously a formal dining room.
With a young family and a multi-level house, they moved the dining area closer to the kitchen, providing them the opportunity to create a space for storing, displaying and enjoying both their large collection of books as well as their vinyl record collection. As convenient as it is, video / audio streaming just isn’t for everyone.
What matters at a point like this is to listen carefully and build an open communication with a solid understanding of the vision. If your choice of craftsman doesn’t share your vision and understand the details, why build it?
Make it stand out
Building Custom Furniture starts with your idea.
The first step in the design of custom furniture is to have a conversation about why the piece should exist:
What is the intended function?
What experience is desired from the piece? Should it evoke certain feelings?
How should it fit in with its surroundings? Should it create the space? Support the space?
Discussing specific forms, wood species, timelines and costs comes after we understand why we’re going on the custom furniture path and why this path is important for the client.
From that first discussion it was clear that they desired a comforting, enveloping place meant to be used and enjoyed both individually and as a family. It would be functional and inspirational together. Those goals could not be attained from readily available pieces, so custom bookshelves and custom cabinetry it would be.
Just because it looks good in a showroom, will it truly complement your personal space?
As we’ll see in subsequent posts, with conversations and exchanges of ideas, the initial thoughts morphed into a cohesive plan that suited the clients’ vision more comprehensively. Details matter.
